Introduction

Manic Panic’s outdated website and massive inventory of colors made it difficult for users to choose their next shade. To help streamline the shopping experience, they tasked Create Ape with refreshing the brand and simplifying the user journey.

The Challenge

Though they were making waves in the fashion and beauty world, Manic Panic’s online shopping experience left a lot to be desired. Users were having difficulties navigating the website because the mega-menus, product pages, checkout flows, and other design elements lacked consistency. They also saw opportunities to improve informational material such as how-to guides, video tutorials, and FAQs — but they needed help in making the content accessible and engaging.

The
Solution

Manic Panic has firm roots in counter-cultural fashion. But since we were creating a site for a brand that caters to diverse age ranges, we needed to strike a balance between daring and approachable. Impactful messaging, trend-conscious aesthetics, and features designed to help users capture their inner rainbow. After conducting an evaluation and interviewing users and stakeholders, we knew the right approach for the website was an interface that was part informational, part lifestyle. Our strategy relied on reorganizing product pages, then directing users to resources to help them with their dye sessions.
Research
We studied color enthusiasts across age ranges, locations, lifestyles, and subcultures to take stock of user needs and gather verifiable data on how to improve flows.

The existing color palette was applied across the site, along with additional gradients, animations, and design elements conceptualized by us and the client.

Once our mockups were approved, we handed all the pages off to our development team to connect the flows in Shopify and double-check for compliance.
