Introduction

GĒR is a social network that incorporates an e-commerce aspect where professional and amateur athletes can post what gear they use while playing, and everyday users can actually purchase that equipment for their own use.

GĒR had a unique idea to combine a social media network with an e-commerce store, allowing everyday users the ability to purchase the equipment that athletes use while competing in their sport. We were tasked with creating the entire mobile app design, as well as a marketing pitch deck to be used for investor presentations by GĒR.

Solution

We began by looking at how other social networks were structured and what information they had within their profiles. Instagram gave us a lot of inspiration, but we had to come up with new flows to integrate the e-commerce design. Understanding how users decided to purchase gear was a huge part of the research process.

Once we planned out the user flows, we started designing the basis of the platform with wireframes to gather the structure. We then ramped up to high fidelity, with the main challenge here being that we had to find higher-quality versions of the images and logos that the client provided to us.

Starting with wireframes and ramping up to high fidelity, we designed the site to focus on and highlight the ability to tag gear in social posts.

Design

Regular check-ins with the client helped provided us with valuable feedback that we used to tweak and optimize the e-commerce design.

Project Summary

GĒR’s unique angle to their social network was the ability for everyday users to learn about and purchase the same gear that professional and amateur athletes were using. We researched other social media platforms like Instagram to gather information about how they were structuring their profiles. Planning out the user flows gave us an understanding of how people would eventually purchase the gear that they were interested in. We then created the mobile app design for posters to tag their equipment to match the database for the e-commerce side. We also optimized the design to make the process as easy and seamless as possible.
