HealthCare Synergy

Giving one of the leading healthcare software applications since 1993 a sophisticated 2024 user experience refresh.
Overview

Electronic Medical Records for Nurses On-the-Go

Healthcare Synergy’s EMR system was designed for home health and post-acute care providers to manage and update patient medical records. Their goal was to develop a software to help nurses with multiple daily visits achieve compliance with high healthcare standards, no matter their patients’ home environments.

The initial application and mobile versions kept nurses organized for 30+ years. As more competitors released modernized apps, Synergy’s core users found themselves overwhelmed with the outdated dashboard.

Research

Understanding Intricate Home Nursing Needs

Home care providers are under immense stress to independently manage patient transfers and medication adherence to avoid repeat hospitalization. Missing small details on a patient record could lead to improper resource allocation, resulting in severe health consequences.

It was important that we made the dashboard as tailored to a home nurse’s processes as we could. To grasp the critical usability flaws in the existing app, we conducted in-depth interviews with stakeholders and end-users.

UX/UI Design

Assembling Intuitive, Mobile-Friendly Flows

To give home care providers a convenient view of all their tasks, we started by designing a segmented dashboard that enabled custom workflow organization. This answered the reported need for flexible charts according to the user’s practice.

Instead of overloading the app with features and functionalities, we kept the user journey focused but adaptable. Prioritizing calm, controlled user interactions with autofill options to abridge data entry, we streamlined a provider’s most cumbersome processes to ensure detailed reports and engaged care for each home visit.
