Introduction
ARK crystals’ science-driven jewelry is all about achieving balance. But how could they properly communicate their value when they didn’t understand the type of customer buying their products?
The Challenge
ARK Crystals’ lack of consumer focus coupled with an unorganized Shopify site created a recipe for disaster in ARK Crystals’ business model. In order to enhance their long-term viability and revenue, we needed to re-tool their online presence from the ground-up with a focus on high-level customizations and optimizations.

The Solution
A niche product like ARK Crystals needs a deep understanding of what drives users to drop big bucks on them. We needed to discover the value each type of customer gets from luxury crystal jewelry. We interviewed ARK Crystals’ key personas to nail down demographics and behavioral patterns. Our strategy was to discover what made them spend money — as well as the design barriers that drove them away.
Evaluation
We evaluated the existing site to determine pain points and identify new strategies. We also wanted to discover which pages we could feasibly keep or slightly tweak for the redesign.

Crazy Egg allowed us to A/B test our designs and figure out what pages and design elements needed to be optimized in order to maximize our KPIs.

Based on the results from our A/B tests, we made edits to the design, like button location and copy length. These suggestions helped us polish the design and release the best product possible.

Ark Crystals had two main focuses of their site: to educate the user on how their products worked and to sell those products. Because already had high-quality photographs, we took a minimalist approach with our design to let the visuals speak for themselves. The A/B testing helped us create an effective e-commerce platform that found the visual balance between technology and luxury — boosting their revenue by 18% within the first six months!

Surfing.com was one of our biggest projects to date, and it continues to be ongoing with new features added every day, as well as more content in the form of videos. We continue to improve on speed/load times, as well as the onboarding flow for user profile creation. Our next steps are to create a mobile application.
